Inspiring the next generation of scientists.

Science | Technology | Engineering | Maths

Canterbury Christ Church University operating as Kent & Medway STEM holds the STEMNET schools network contract for Kent and Medway and provides information and links to Science,Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Enhancement & Enrichment (E&E) activities.Through this we have a responsibility to:

  • To enable young people to make informed decisions about future career paths in and from STEM.
  • To provide teachers with impartial information and support to enable them to deliver STEM curriculum.
  • To support industry in reducing the STEM skills gap.
  • To raise the profile of science and engineering in the region.

Based at the Canterbury Christ Church University, we support the agenda for ensuring a good supply of scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians in the UK.
We provide all schools and colleges in the Kent and Medway area with free impartial advice and guidance on a wide range of STEM Enrichment and Engagement (E&E) activities, helping them to identify which opportunities can best inspire their young people in STEM.
These E and E activities produce successful STEM learners by offering engaging and achievable challenges, whilst building student confidence. They support students' development into responsible citizens through placing the STEM learning in relevant life contexts.

Kent & Medway STEM also holds the ‘STEM Ambassadors’ contract for Kent and Medway region, which means that we recruit people who are willing to give their time and energy free of charge to help inspire young people in STEM
To support teachers in delivering the STEM curricula, the STEM Ambassador programme offers input from enthusiastic volunteers from industry, education and research who have STEM backgrounds and experience. Kent & Medway STEM facilitates their CRB checks, maintains a database of their skills and helps to deploy them to schools and colleges – they can do this in a variety of ways from illustrating specific careers or helping with classroom activities to assisting in extracurricular activities such as clubs, challenges and competitions.

The Schools Network and Ambassadors contracts are awarded by STEMNET and run till March 2015.
